How does VR-TR programme work? – The Science

Disturbing experiences are stored in the brain with all the sights, sounds, thoughts and feelings that accompany it. Because the brain is unable to process them normally, it suppresses such memories from consciousness. The emotional distress lives on in the nervous system, where it causes disturbances in the functioning of the person.

The VR-TR Technique does two very important things.

  • First, it “unlocks” the negative memories and emotions stored in the nervous system

  • Second, it helps the brain to successfully process the experience.

The VR-TR therapy uses bilateral brain stimulation, which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that are “trapped” in the nervous system. This assists the neurophysiological system, the basis of the mind/body connection, to free itself of blockages and reconnect itself.

VR-TR makes it possible to re-experience the memories in a new way and to gain the self-knowledge and perspective that will enable the client to choose their actions, rather than feeling powerless over their re-actions. The VR-TR sessions continue until the traumatic memories and emotions are fully relieved

What are the advantages of VR-TR programme?

VR-TR is very effective in helping people process emotionally painful and traumatic experiences.

VR-TR helps move the client quickly from emotional distress to peaceful resolution of the issues or events involved.

VR-TR sessions work amazingly fast. Processing even the most difficult memories can be achieved in a fraction of the time it would have taken with traditional therapy.

VR-TR can short-cuts the analysing process and go right to the releasing stage.

The positive, long-term results of VR-TR therapy affect all levels of the client’s well-being — mental, emotional and physical, so that their responses return to normalcy and health.

Studies consistently show that treatment with VR-TR results in elimination of the targeted emotion . The memory remains but the negative response is neutralised.

VR-TR can help clients replace their anxiety and fear with positive images, emotions and thoughts.

Who can be helped by VR-TR?

People who have experienced or witnessed violence, disasters, crimes, sexual assault and other traumas, victims of crime and professionals such as police, emergency workers and firefighters; accident victims and anyone who has experienced a serious loss (such as the death of a close friend or family member, divorce, etc.). VR-TR is also very effective treatment for people suffering from phobias–fear of flying, water, spiders, etc.

Because VR-TR has the power to relieve any type of emotional block or fear, It can also be used to enhance the performance of athletes, actors, musicians, students, public speakers and executives, reduce performance anxiety and stage fright.

Are there studies that show that VR-TR is effective?

VR-TR has been derived for well-researched treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder called Eye Movement De-Sensitisation and Reprocessing. It is the thoroughly researched method used in the treatment of PTSD & trauma.

A recent study of individuals who experienced rape, military combat, loss of loved ones, disasters and serious accidents, found that 84-90% had relief of their emotional distress after only few Eye Movement De-Sensitisation and Reprocessing sessions.

Although some people have dramatic responses in a short period of time, others will progress more slowly. However, the results will be equally effective and long-lasting.

What happens during a VR-TR session?

After gaining the knowledge, of how to identify the exact experience or memory causing distress, the client identifies a calm space, within their home environment, and runs the programme, in virtual reality. As the painful thoughts and feelings come to the surface, the bilateral eye movements and auditory feed brings about the release of accompanying emotions and then they reprocessed. The bilateral patterns of eye movements and auditory feedback continue until the emotions are neutralised and the event is re-associated with positive thoughts and feelings about oneself.

How often would I need VR-TR programme?
